The winners of each event in both the male and female categories are as follow;
5 Km – Male: David Freake; Female: Keeley Cox
8 Km – Male: Craig Vokey ; Female: Debie Hiscock
Thanks so much too all the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to help put off this event. You all set such a high standard when it comes to quality and preparation. This is certainly a reflection in the amount of interest and involvement that this race has garnered over the past few years.
Great job and performance by all, hope to see you again in 2015 (www.randomrunners.ca)
Running with the Grade Six Students at Riverside Elementary
Running with the Grade Six Students at Riverside Elementary
On May 22 two very special members and experienced runners from the Random Runners Club hosted a running clinic for the grade six students at Riverside Elementary School. Both Keith Barrington and Lyn Gorman are excellent ambassadors for the sport of running and overall active living. Having a huge resume of running experience between them both, we are very fortunate to have them not only as members of the club but as leaders within the club. When Keith and Lyn recently mentioned that they would be hosting a running clinic for students at Riverside I was very interested in knowing more about the clinic and how their day went. Following the clinic they graciously sent me a wonderful write-up about their day and about their experiences working with the young students of Riverside.

“Today I had the opportunity along with Lyn to do a running clinic with some 85 grade six students from Riverside school. There were 4 groups of approximately 20. We had 40 minutes with each group. We first met for about 15 minutes for introductions and to talk about our running experiences as well as explaining the benefits of running. We emphasized how to run for the enjoyment of it even if a person does not necessarily have a competitive nature. We stressed that running for the fun of it is most important and that it was the easiest sport to get involved in ie: you can run anywhere at any time with little equipment other than good shoes and comfortable clothes. The students found it interesting that we could run all winter long. They were surprised that there are some people in their 80’s that run marathons. We focused as well on how to start slow and run at a pace that is comfortable enough to chat with a friend. This is where the most aerobic benefit is gained. We also explained that the benefits of running would be seen in other sports they participated in.
We then went upstairs to the track at the Event Center and I did a 10 minute running session for those who wanted to run for that time and Lyn did the 10 minute run/walk for the others. All students participated for the 10 minutes although some had not run that long before. The overall response was great.
After we sat down to get some feedback and there were many questions from the students regarding our running experiences as well as queries about the difference between jogging and running; they asked about my experience at Boston; they wanted to know about what kind of shoes to wear; and how far one should run without stopping. They also asked questions about running with asthma or with injuries such as a sprained ankle.
We let them know that Random Runners is involved in 2 organized runs in Clarenville, the Clarenville Days Run and the Terry Fox Run and encouraged them to set goals for their running and perhaps take part in these events. Overall we believe they enjoyed the experience very much.”

Random Runners Club – AGM
Many of the runners in our club set personal goals for themselves and then train to achieve these goals. For example, many members train for the Clarenville Race Day and/or the Tely 10.
Running is a wonderful sport with awesome health benefits. We encourage you to join the Random Runners and meet other runners with whom you can share this wonderful sport.
